Perfect Pairing: Aeration and Overseeding

Aeration and over-seeding services are the perfect pairing that will help your grass become lush, thick and healthy before the hotter months ahead.

Many homeowners have their lawns aerated at this time of year. If your lawn has dried out enough and temperatures are warm enough (mid-high teens), now is an ideal time to aerate your lawn. Aeration provides many benefits to your lawn. Core aeration is the removal of small cores of soil and thatch (the layer of living and decomposing organic debris between the soil surface and green vegetation) from your lawn with specially designed equipment. Put more simply, the aeration machine punches a series of holes throughout your lawn. The removal of these plugs allows air, water and nutrients to reach the root system of grass plants much more effectively.  In turn, both fertilizer and water use become more efficient.  This contributes to a healthier, deeper root system that enables the grass plants to better overcome stress caused by insects and disease.

In addition to the benefits described above, the holes left behind by the aerator create an ideal environment to introduce new grass seed to your lawn. Weed Man can effectively apply grass seed evenly to your entire lawn. You may want to add some compost and/or triple mix topsoil to bare or severely damaged areas. Try not to leave exposed seed on top of the soil since it can be washed away in a heavy rainfall or watering, blown away by the wind or picked up by birds.
